Eyes Forward: Moving Out On Our Own

Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.   Philippians 3:13,14

No one who puts a hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God.  Luke 9:62

At Kilimanjaro Base Camp

We’re in an uncomfortable place at the moment; we’re closing one chapter and starting another. It’s all part of the same story, we’re just entering the next phase of our journey. We recently had the opportunity to travel to Tanzania for an Agricultural Symposium. While there we visited the Kilimanjaro base camp on a day trip. We did not anticipate the emotional experience that would be. We walked around watching people preparing for their big climb and we could feel all the anticipation and uncertainty of the climbing parties. Passing through the gate to the base camp was like passing into an epic journey. The experience mirrored our present reality.

Until now, our Farming God’s Way strategy has been expressed through Seed of Hope Community Development, in a specific geographic area. Our 3-year Canadian Foodgrains Bank project, soon coming to an end, was also focused on that area. We’ve done the occasional trainings at other locations for other churches and NGO’s, but the bulk of our efforts were in Bhekulwandle.

We know we’re being called to help many people, faith-based NGO’s and churches replicate in their areas what we’ve done in Bhekulwandle. The vision is to raise up many leader/trainer/disciples to bring hope, development and transformation to the rural poor utilizing the Farming God’s Way tool.

To date, we are in relationship with over 20 churches and NGO’s at various stages of launching or building their Farming God’s Way strategies. We’re busy planning and preparing for what it looks like to support and encourage this growing network of organization and leaders.

Seed of Hope was, and is family. It was a place, and a people, to belong to. Moving out more or less “on our own” is a bit scary. But we press on, knowing this is what God has called us to. Just like those climbers at Kilimanjaro, we plan and prepare, but we can’t anticipate what the journey will actually be like until we pass through the gates and begin the climb. Please pray for us – for wisdom, discernment, insight and encouragement – as we move forward into this new chapter of Farming God’s Way ministry.

Watch for the updates… because Dan says that one day he wants to tackle Kili himself!

  1. Thanks for the update. I will be praying as you asked … for wisdom, discernment, insight and encouragement. May God graciously reveal His plan for your present and future ministry. I’m also still praying for Jeremy. Ken & Erna Neufeld visited at Paul & Debbie’s recently and were very impressed with “the young man”.

I’m not sure if this will reach you … don’t understand technology enough. I hope it does.
    Love & prayers,

I trust that you have had a great Easter week, God has been good, we had 4 Easter services this weekend, and many people attended, and the gospel was presented, and trust that there were those who prayed to receive Christ as the Savior.

    1. You are so amazing Phyllis… a true courageous heart. Easter services were always a treat at Beulah… what an amazing heritage. Thank you for your kind encouragement. We miss you lots and send big bear hugs.

  3. Sounds very exciting Dan and Kerry! Birthing a new thing is about preparation, waiting and expectation of what is to come. I believe God is always creating new things, that is new ways of expanding His Kingdom. In your case through the “soil”! Congratulations on your resolve to follow God’s leading! “Those who know their God are strong and do do exploits… They disciple many along the way…” (Daniel 11:32-33)
