The Birth of New Things: A Training Strategy

In this new chapter, we have found many new training opportunities opening up for us in the greater Durban area. We are seeing an uprecedented interest by the church and development-minded individuals looking for ways to engage on a holistic level with their communities. Often people will contact us with many questions around food production and our goal is to help get them to a place where they can equip their own communities with the transformational tools within Farming God’s Way. Usually our contact begins with an initial training which would be our first exposure to a group or community. We had this experience with an Anglican Church in Salt Rock who invited us to do a one day introduction to Farming God’s Way.

What continues to bring us great delight is that God is building his kingdom faster than we can keep up with. At this forward-thinking Anglican church, a dedicated worker named Denis had already been reading the Farming God’s Way manuals himself and had implemented the strategies on an amazingly adventurous scale. We applaud his courage and dedication and trust that the fruit of his labours will be far-reaching. We benefitted from all his work by having a wonderful training garden already established.

Each community is unique and we feel thankful for the joy that they give to us through their interest and desire to learn. Our heart is for each one of us to grasp the incredible identity we have been given as human beings created in the image of God. When we understand the dignity and value placed on ourselves, we can no longer live in dependency on others for the solution to our problems. We recognize that we have been given skills and resources, and must work to realize their potential for the good of our families and communities. It is wonderful to see the excitement in people’s hearts when they begin to believe in themselves and take responsibility for their own situations.

We continue to see the power of God working through these trainings in releasing people to embrace their potential. In a symbolic way, we plant seeds of learning and pray that they will grow into courage, perseverance, diligence, ownership and success.

With this being just the beginning of the journey, we will have follow up contact with All Souls Anglican church and hope to eventually identify a person willing to become a trainer. We have our eye on Denis… but of course we will move forward as opportunities present themselves. Until then, we will make ourselves available for training and gently encouraging potential leaders to take greater involvement in the training strategy. Success would be to have a fully equipped trainer at every site.
