Celebrating The Completion of a 3 Year CFGB Project

We are so grateful to have had the privilege of partnering with the Canadian Foodgrains Bank in a 3-year funded food security project. The project officially ended on May 31, but of course the impact of the investment of time, training and discipleship is just beginning.

We had the opportunity to celebrate what God has done and is doing in Bhekulwandle and Mdumezulu through Farming God’s Way, and particularly through the funded project. On May 31 we held a celebration event at Seed of Hope. In attendance were the Seed of Hope staff, Seed of Hope board members, the Farming God’s Way team, and 6 adopter representatives. These six represented all of the positive change in the community that came as a result of the project, and it was this change in the Farming God’s Way adopters that we especially wanted to celebrate.

It is always good to remember, and marvel at the good things God has done. It was good for us all together to look back over the last three years at what has been achieved through this project! To remember the trainings, the gardens, the crews we invested in deeply on the demonstration field, the harvests, the leaders we trained, the compost piles… incredible!

And the change. It’s all about the change. As a result of this 3-year project, there are 86 new Farming God’s Way adopter families! Significantly, all of our “lead adopters” – those in whom we see very significant change and ability to help others – were part of a field crew that helped prepare, plant and manage our demonstration field.

Dan with Gogo Muthwa who led the Entabalende Project in Mdumezulu

What was most gratifying about the celebration event was a comment by Gogo Muthwa, a leader in the community who was in attendance. She said the community would be sure to continue on in what they have learned and implemented, and that Farming God’s Way would continue to spread and take root as a result of what we had done. Only the change agents wouldn’t be trainers from outside the community – they would be the adopter-leaders within the community, resulting from the last 3 years of investment!

Tholakele Shange

I often think of Tholakele Shange, our first adopter in Mdumezulu. She is now a Farming God’s Way leader in her community. She supports 14 people from her own garden, and is leading and training 11 people on a community garden on her property. When I met her, she was so quiet and shy; always looking down. Now she has the joyful demeanor of God’s precious daughter, and envoy of the King! Her family has been changed forever; we trust that through new leaders like Tholakele, the community will continue to find hope, healing and God’s promised abundant life.

We want to give a special thank you to Nicole Jones who worked tirelessly on many of the project logistics, monitoring and evaluation, coaching and report writing. Her contributions were invaluable and we honour her significant time and investment.

The CFGB project has now ended and it gave us a solid funding base to launch into the community of Mdumezulu. Moving forward, we are trusting God for continued results from that intentional 3 year investment.

There is much to celebrate!
