Over the last couple of seasons, we’ve had issues in the field with bush pig destroying areas of maize, especially at cob filling time. We’ve also had damage from neighbours’ goats and cattle. We’ve known we’ve needed a fence, but have lacked the funds to get it done. Well, thanks especially to some friends from Centre Street Church, a fence is going in! You can see the fencing progress above. It’s a solid fence of galvanized steel posts and mesh; one that should be maintenance free for many years.

Time is our most precious resource, and so it’s important that it’s relatively maintenance free. I am grateful to our friends who made the fencing project possible! We have plans to further develop the fenced-in area. Our next step is to establish a mixed vegetable demonstration garden, complete with irrigation. The idea is to demonstrate what is possible as a home nutrition garden where people have access to water. With winter dry season watering, it’s possible to have a highly productive nutrition garden all year around!
