Nicole Jones Leaves the Abundant Fruit of a Relational Investment

Goodbyes are never easy. However… the quality of one’s goodbyes says a lot about how one has lived and learned. We recently drove through Mdumezulu with Nicole Jones to visit the community farmers she has been working with while in South Africa. It was a poignant time of intimate greetings and warm wishes. Through this agricultural project, Nicole has seen people and families improving their food security and taking steps to change their lives. It has been a relational journey as reflected in these last moments before she departed South Africa.

On 24 August 2015, Nicole Jones joined us for a two-year term in South Africa. Her mission, in large part, was to assist us with our Canadian Foodgrains Bank-funded Farming God’s Way training project in Bhekulwandle and Mdumezulu. Nicole is a long term, strategic thinker. While she was completing her university degree in 2012 she had previously joined us in South Africa for a 3 month internship. Because of her commitment to long term relationship building and development, she assured us that she would be back. The last 2 years have been confirmation of that promise. Nicole has continued what she began in 2013 and as she returns to Canada leaves a wake of love and investment. She returns to Canada to a fiancé and the blessing of a wedding some time in April next year.

Very special moments of goodbye for a special woman.

Nicole was indispensable in her role with us. On the administrative side, she gathered data, wrote reports and fielded requests for information we received from Canada. In the field, she built relationships, learned a bunch of Zulu, taught Farming God’s Way principles, and encouraged and prayed with adopters. While we were in Canada in 2016, Nicole kept the CFGB project running efficiently, planned and executed trainings, visited the areas we worked into regularly, and reported back to us on activities.

And that’s just Farming God’s Way. In addition, she co-led the church youth group, assisted with planning at Seed of Hope, ran a discipleship group for young women, and, and, and…

Nicole is one of those people who is designed for cross cultural work. She is an energetic learner and she is passionate about bridging cultural differences. She is not afraid to go to places that she has never gone to before and she sees life as a big adventure. It truly was remarkable to have her contribute her ideas and input to the World Partners Team here in South Africa. We are grateful not only for Nicole’s service, but her support and encouragement as well. For the two years she was here, she was (still is) part of our family — and she is missed.

Nicole, we are excited for you and your upcoming wedding to Phil. You are always welcome, as family always is. We look forward to your ongoing efforts to bring justice and development in areas of the world where it is most needed. We know that your input will bring about change wherever you go.
