Reflection Seed of Hope

God is Good All The Time

We’re at the end of our first term in the field. Almost 4 years ago, we resigned from our ministry positions in Calgary and began raising funds to transition to South Africa. Now that 3 years have passed in South Africa, we’re heading back to Canada for 3 months and time with family, friends and churches that have been so faithful and generous in supporting what we’re doing.

It’s hard to believe our first term is over; the time has just flown! Through the challenges, we have truly experienced the blessing and faithfulness of God on us as a family, and on our ministry here among Zulu speaking people. And, we are profoundly grateful for how you have partnered with us in prayer and financial support each step of the way!

Looking back, we can see how God has used us at Seed of Hope Community Development. As an outreach, the work of Seed of Hope is strong.

  • The staff functions like a team, and like a small faith community – praying for and helping each other.
  • We’ve become clearer in our goal to help people reach their God-given potential, and to make positive changes that enable them to provide for themselves and their families.
  • We’ve ministered to many who were sick, and some who have died.
  • We’ve shown compassion and care to families in crisis, often providing emergency food or clothing.
  • Everywhere I look, I see evidence of the Kingdom of God being expressed – good news being proclaimed to the poor, freedom for prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, the oppressed being set free.

What a privilege to be part of what God is doing here!

I am grateful for how God has consistently provided for us. Often, when finances have been tight, there has been an immediate provision. What I am most grateful for, however, is for how God has looked after us as a family. My biggest concern in coming to South Africa was for how it would impact Jeremy and Abby. I can honestly say that we are stronger as a family. Kerry and I are good, and the kids have been thriving in every way. Homeschooling has been a good fit – the kids love learning at their own pace  – and they have made great and lasting friendships here. The highlight of their week is youth group at Oasis Church on Friday nights. Jeremy is loving learning the guitar, and Abby is loving ballet, and her art classes on Wednesdays with a local artist.

As we look back over the last 4 years, we can only say God is good – all the time. We are blessed!
