Family People and Relationships

O Canada!

Walking along a boardwalk in Toronto overlooking Lake Ontario with Kerry’s brother and her family, meeting some special new friends at a church in Waterloo, reconnecting with university friends at a coffee shop, laughing, remembering, savoring are all highlights of our 3 months in Canada. Breakfast at Timmy’s, Starbucks lattes, conversations, inspiration, hugs…. more highlights. Westie kisses, Colby ball tosses, curry dinners, picnics at the lake, quick hellos at church, cousins, siblings, parents, aunts and uncles… special people and rich memories. What a privilege it was to have spent 3 months in (mostly) Canada earlier this year on home assignment!

After spending 10 days with Kerry’s parents in Florida (photos), it was off to Canada:  Southern Ontario (photos), Calgary, Edmonton and Kelowna. Everywhere we went we met with supporters, visited family and spoke at church services and events. We’ll admit the pace was hectic and sometimes exhausting, but it was an amazing time of reconnection and sharing. Just when we felt we needed a break, we were able to take off to Kelowna for a few weeks of slower pace and fewer meetings. Dan’s family – parents, sister, brother-in-law and 5 nieces & nephews – all live in Kelowna, so it was great to spend time all together. We spent some time with friends at a holiday condo on Lake Okanagan as well – what a treat!

We are keenly aware that, if we’d had more time, we would have been able to see many more friends and supporters of our work in South Africa. If we happened to miss you, we’re so sorry! We really did try to meet with as many people as we could, but sometimes schedules just don’t match up.

We do miss Canada at times – most especially friends and family – but we are so very grateful that God has gone before us to help us feel at home here in South Africa, and among the Zulu people with whom we minister. We are extremely grateful for all of you for your prayers, for your friendship, for keeping in touch and staying connected, and for making it possible for us to be here via your financial support.

Often, we feel like we’re not doing enough to stay in touch with friends and supporters individually. It’s a tension we live in constantly – emails we haven’t gotten to, personal notes, letters and cards we haven’t had time for, etc. We hope these blogs do a small part in keeping in touch with the large number of you who support us in some way. Know that we are extremely grateful for your understanding, patience, and support. It means a great deal to us. And we’re so grateful we had the opportunity to see many of you face-to-face earlier this year.

Gratefully,

Dan and Kerry
