Farming and Agriculture Reflection Seed of Hope

The Gift of Sowing

Farming God’s Way, at it’s core, is about helping the rural poor discover the gifts (resources) that He’s already given. It’s about discovering the abundant potential of the land to shatter the cycle of poverty, and to break the power of dependency of people.

It’s been a gift to work that out, practically, on our demonstration field. Despite the setback of having had the field plowed, we’ve managed to get our crop in to Farming God’s Way standards.

It’s been a gift to experience, once again, the miracle of agriculture. It is a gift to invest in the land, to sow a seed in the soil and wait for the return. I often say that we can put compost in the soil, we can wait for rain and then put seed in the ground and faithfully cover the soil with God’s Blanket, but we can’t actually make a seed sprout. It’s a real act of faith, farming. And that too is a gift – to rely on God, and not on our own faulty understanding.

It’s been a gift to work with these 6 representatives of 6 community gardens in the area. It’s been wonderful to see them grow and learn together. I am trusting they are receiving what they’re learning as a gift, and we’re praying we see the seeds of knowledge and understanding that we’ve sown sprout up all over Ithshehlophe.
