The Gift of Language

One of the gifts we have become very much aware of this Christmas season is the gift of language. As I write this, we have completed up our first 2 weeks of voice-over recording for the Farming God’s Way DVD translation project. Musa Mvula, our school outreach and youth worker, successfully “auditioned” for the job. He was very (very!) excited to work on this project. Musa’s excellent English and Zulu literacy made him a great candidate for bringing spoken Zulu language to the FGW curriculum.

Musa flew down to Port Elizabeth on December 7, and returned on December 20. After a rocky first couple of days getting his feet wet, Musa found his groove and they made steady progress.  He even overcame some voice loss after spending 10 days straight in the studio.  Musa showed much professional perseverance with the long hours and intense schedule. We are celebrating the completion of half of the necessary recording.

There are over 7 hours of training videos on 3 DVD’s, so it’s a big project. The recording isn’t finished yet; Musa will fly back to Port Elizabeth on January 6. We’re hoping that, after another 2-week recording stint, the recording phase will be completed, leaving the studio, Rooftop Productions, to do the post-production work. Hopefully, before too long, we’ll have the main FGW resources fully translated into isiZulu!!

It is such a gift to be able to provide Zulu speakers with FGW resources in their own language. This will open up doors to give families the tools to improve their food security. They will hear the life changing concepts in a language that communicates with their heart and the deep truths with have an opportunity to impact them forever.  This has truly been one of God’s wonderful gifts to us this Christmas.
