Celebrating 5 Years

It is almost impossible to believe we’ve been living and ministering in South Africa for more than five years already! There have been many ups and downs, but far above all the circumstance and happenings, we are mindful of God’s incredible faithfulness to us. We are truly blessed to have the privilege of serving such an awesome, faithful, loving God. There is nothing I’d rather do to be “on mission” for our Father, our King.

Our biggest prayer request when relocating to South Africa was that God would look after our kids – that He would protect their hearts, and keep them strong during the transition and beyond.

He has accomplished this far and above even what we’d dared to hope. My prayer was that Jeremy and Abby wouldn’t be scarred, or become angry or bitter because we not only moved away from family and friends, but moved to a place where everything was so totally unfamiliar, and uncomfortable.

But praise God, He had bigger plans for our kids than just preventing these things. In fact, our kids have thrived. They have had exposure and experiences that have positively molded and shaped them. They’ve had the privilege of learning deeply about another culture, while still in the protection of home and family. We’ve been able to put them in extra-curricular classes and lessons we probably couldn’t have afforded in Canada. God is good!

God has been incredibly gracious to us. The home we’re renting has worked out well for us, and we have a good relationship with the owner. God has been faithful to provide all our needs, through many of you reading this and churches that support us. He has guided and empowered us in our various ministry endeavours through Seed of Hope, Oasis Church and many other contexts. And, by God’s grace we are becoming more and more like his Son Jesus!

We have some family challenges ahead, and God’s faithfulness to us gives us complete confidence that He will work out the details. Specifically, Jeremy will (hopefully!) complete high school in June 2016. He is committed to post secondary education, likely university, but has no idea what, or where, he should study.

We’ve kept him enrolled in a Canadian homeschool board, and so he will graduate with an Alberta high school diploma, with the option of studying in Canada – an option his mother accepts, but she isn’t too keen about the possibility of being a world away from her boy! Yes, it will be hard for me too, probably just not as intensely so.

So, we have that transition to navigate next year. And then, 2 years later, we’ll have the same transition to navigate with Abigail.

So please pray for us. Pray for Jeremy, that the big questions of what to study, and where, will get answered at the right time and in the right way. If Jeremy ends up studying in Canada, we’ll likely schedule a Home Assignment to coincide to help him get settled into his new life. Pray for us as we consider all the details of that, and begin to make plans over the coming months.
