A Special and Meaningful Visit from the EMCC

We recently had the privilege of a visit from Dr. Phil Delsault, President of the Evangelical Missionary Church of Canada, and Lou Geense, Associate Director of EMCC World Partners. They came just to see what’s happening on the EMCC’s South African mission field, and to be an encouragement to us.

And an encouragement they certainly were. We weren’t really worried, but neither did we know what the reaction would be to what they saw and experienced. Would they feel we were doing a good job? That enough progress was being made? That we were on the right track?

Well, it turns out that their main aim was not to do a thorough evaluation (though of course we had evaluative conversations), but to be a blessing to us. Lou, to whom I send our Farming God’s Way project reports, was happy with the progress made so far. Phil was interested in possible connections between what we’re doing and other projects in India and Ethiopia. And we had good conversations about the Way of Jesus – what it means to really follow Jesus, and how to communicate that to those whom we are discipling.

Phil is a reader, and while he was here he blessed me with 3 books I’ve added to my immediate reading collection. Perhaps a future blog will include a book report!

Thanks so much for the visit!

It was great to show Lou and Phil the demo field and the community gardens we are working with, along with Tholakele’s home garden. It was good also to talk about the future, and where we think God is leading us. Thanks for the visit, Lou and Phil!
