Celebrating the Completion of the Zulu Translation Project

They’re here! All the Farming God’s Way resources have been translated into isiZulu: The Trainers’ Reference Guide, Field Guide, Vegetable Guide and the 3-disc DVD training series. These resources are the culmination of thousands of hours of work in translating, transcribing, proofing, and recording. We are certainly doing a happy dance after nearly three years of work!

On October 31, we held a launch celebration at Seed of Hope. Many from the Farming God’s Way training community were there, along with Grant Dryden (author of the resources and Farming God’s Way director), faith-based NGO leaders and Seed of Hope staff. We were able to thank the people who gave so much of their time to make the translation possible. Our key translators were: Sibongiseni Dlamini, Zephaniah Mbuyisa, Girlie Mngoma and Musa Mvula.

The event was so special. Many times on the journey we wondered if we’d ever get to the end, and now here we are! The really exciting thing is this is just the beginning. Now begins the journey of getting these resources into the hands of rural Zulu farmers. Pray for the extension of Farming God’s Way. Reviewing the Management Keys for Farming Gods Way.

I spoke with a farmer friend of mine in the Northern Cape last week, and he said he’s been spending more time helping neighbours put out brush fires than he has tending his farm. There is apparently enough maize stock to last the country until next harvest, but if the harvest takes a major hit, food prices are going to soar. There is trouble looming on the horizon, unless smallholder farmers can begin upscaling the volume and quality of their harvests – God’s way!

When people experience the principles of Farming God’s Way in their own language, one can see the engagement and interest. People sit on the edge of their seat soaking in the principles that will transform their agricultural practices. It is exciting to be able to offer this wonderful material now fully in the Zulu language.
