We’ve seen some amazing transformation in the sewing area at Seed of Hope. The bright red walls and inviting atmosphere are witnesses to the growth in the women and program. For the last 6 years Kerry has had the incredible privilege of working alongside Ernestina Hlophe to develop the program. A deep friendship has flourished between them and it has been a rewarding partnership in leadership. Over these years, Kerry has seen more than 20 women graduate with exceptional sewing skills and some go on to start co-ops.  Kerry has never seen herself as running the program. She has worked behind the scenes trying to remove obstacles and encourage opportunity for women in the program. We experimented with selling products at a local market and gained some good retail experience through that. A real highlight was seeing Ernestina excel in the Fashion Design Program this year. The faces and stories of each woman have warmed our hearts as they show growth in skill and character through the program.

As we prepare for our Home Assignment in 2016, Kerry began to feel that it was time to transition out of the sewing area at Seed of Hope. With our half year absence ahead, a plan needed to be made to cover the time and transport that Kerry often provided. It seemed like a perfect time to encourage Ernestina to take on all the responsibilities of the program. It is so exciting to see how Ernestina will continue to give amazing leadership and wisdom to sewing training at Seed of Hope. She is a most capable leader and has great vision for the women in her community. It is with my sincere gratitude that I thank her immensely for such a rewarding 6 years of teamwork and progress.
