Our Future: Building a Network of Trainers

A part of our ministry philosophy is to always try to work ourselves out of a job. The main idea here is spiritual multiplication through intentional discipling: making disciples who make disciples.

One of Dan’s disciples is Zephania Mbuyisa, whom he has been discipling for over three years through the work at Seed of Hope.

Since I met Zeph, he’s come to faith in Jesus, implemented his own Farming God’s Way vegetable garden (it’s a very large garden!), and has learned foundational principles of gospel-based, Jesus-centred community development. I am preparing to hand off leadership of the Farming God’s Way strategy at Seed of Hope Community Development to Zeph. He’s known for a while that he is being trained, groomed – discipled – for taking leadership of the strategy.

Early this year, a new dream was birthed in us: to multiply what we’ve done at Seed of Hope all over South Africa, and beyond. Over the last three years, a number of churches and faith-based NGO’s have asked for support and help in both training in Farming God’s Way in their geographic areas of influence, and to help them launch long-term Farming God’s Way strategies of their own. At the moment, there are over 20 churches and faith-based agencies on our radar in KwaZulu-Natal alone.

Extending Our Reach

Dan sees his focus becoming networking trainers and agencies:

  1. To help them launch their own Farming God’s Way strategy: identify leaders, put a strategy in place, and provide ongoing advice.
  2. To provide long-term leadership training and discipleship to their identified Farming God’s way leaders, trainers and trainers-in-training.

It is an exciting, but somewhat daunting shift for us. Transitions are uncertain, sometimes scary things, but we are confident in God’s leading. Please pray with us that God would continue to provide the wisdom, people, and resources necessary to accomplish this vision. We labour for a disciple-making movement, coupled with a faith-based revolution in agriculture / soil stewardship methods for the rural poor. We strive to “spend ourselves on behalf of the hungry.” Isa. 58:10.

Very often we find ourselves giving thanks for you, our partners in ministry. Although the phrase sounds cliché, it remains true that we truly couldn’t do what we do without you!

Mobile Training Unit Vision

As our ministry transition evolves, the shift in focus is going to require a 4-wheel drive vehicle, which we call a “mobile training unit.” The idea is that the vehicle would be equipped with everything needed to do a full Farming God’s Way training. We are hoping to raise the funds necessary for this vision. The vehicle needs to be:

  • 4-wheel drive, we can get anywhere we need to
  • outfitted with all required tools and training materials: projector, screen, visual aids, hoes, seed, bibles, etc.
  • canopied, to store the tools and training materials securely, and protect against the weather.
