Celebrating Culture in Style

Living in South Africa gives me an opportunity every day to experience something uniquely cultural. Being in Bhekulwandle, brings us daily into contact with the zulu culture and its many facets. Life feels so rich to me when I get to be immersed in another culture. I love also how there are many indians living in this part of the world and once in a while I get to experience their culture as well. We are privileged at our church to be so multicultural. At our last church celebration we had the amazing zulu singing of the Mighty Voices choir (photos). We also had for the first time that I know of, proper Zulu dancing with Zulu kicks. The atmosphere was electric and I was in heaven!

We served traditional Zulu food: Pap, Chakalaka, Amadumbe, Imifino (spinach), Butternut and beef stew. The cooking was done by one of our entrepreneurs, Buli’s Kitchen, and the food was excellent and cooked on time. As we all sat outside in a circle enjoying the afternoon, I kept thinking to myself… this is living life to the fullest. What a privilege to be surrounded by so many unique individuals. I felt like a millionaire!
