Looking Back at Special Summer Family Memories

From Durban, South Africa to London, England, to Calgary, Canada and then Ontario, and British Columbia, we completed our home assignment in just less than 5 months. We thought we’d share some of our favourite family photo highlights.

It had been incredibly hectic leaving South Africa and so getting a chance to catch our breath in London was a well needed interlude… Onto Calgary.

We flew to Ontario after exams were done. Jeremy at this time was starting his summer job in Kelowna after completing his second year at UBC in Kelowna. He did very well, passing all of his subjects.

We were excited to visit a number of churches in Ontario where we began to share our dream called Inundo. From Ontario we flew to the west coast for time with Dan’s family and a special reunion with our son Jeremy. Kelowna was plagued with smoke from forest fires and we missed much of the beautiful scenery.

Kerry’s parents flew to Kelowna from Florida for a special visit. We last saw them in 2016.

All this time, Abby’s boxes were on a ship making their way to Vancouver. We were able again to combine a visit to Chilliwack with the important task of clearing those boxes at the customs office in Vancouver.

With all the smoke from the forest fires, travelling was severely hampered. We had a very rainy weekend in Chilliwack, which cleared to a spectacularly clear day for our Vancouver excursion. We were relieved when there were no glitches at the customs centre and then spent the rest of the day enjoying Vancouver.

With our time in Kelowna winding down, we were able to celebrate Dan’s mom’s 70th birthday with a beautiful lakefront evening in Kelowna.

The stress of our final days in Kelowna were compounded by a delivery crisis with Abigail’s boxes. The company dropped the ball and we spend hours trying to get the boxes delivered in time for Abby to start school. Canada can be just as inefficient as South Africa!

We are so proud of both our kids. Jeremy embarked on a challenging third year course load. His favourite course is ethics and he is seriously considering doing some post grad work in ethics. Abby discovered quickly that she is really enjoying her psychology and is very happy with her combined BA in Psych with a minor in fine art. In her first week, her art teacher gave her 30 drawings to do! We wish them all the best in their university years.
